Invisalign Clear Braces Do’s & Don’ts
Wondering what to do and what not to do when wearing Invisalign aligners? We’re here to help. Today, our dentists based in Wolverhampton share their advice and tips or some common Invisalign dos and don’ts.
Do: Stick to 20+ hours of wear per day
Like any removable clear brace, with Invisalign braces, you’ll need to ensure you’re getting the right amount of wear. Most dentists recommend 20-22 hours daily, to achieve the best results, but don’t forget they can be taken out for meals and snacks.
Don’t: Skip your treatment
If you miss a set of Invisalign aligners or conversely spend longer than recommended wearing them, you could affect your treatment time and result. If you’re in any doubt about which set of clear braces to wear, talk to one of our dentists in Wolverhampton for advice.
Do: Store in the Invisalign case only
Invisalign aligners are transparent. So if you keep them loosely outside of the case, they stand a higher risk of being damaged unknowingly. Keeping them in the case will also prevent them from getting lost and save them from getting any germs on them.
Don’t: Chew gum with Invisalign
The same is true for eating and snacking – all of it is advised against when you’re wearing your aligners. That’s because you could damage the braces and hurt your mouth, causing them to become stained, or even get food stuck in the brace.
Do: Have regular dental check-ups
You’ll need to take care of your smile throughout treatment and prioritise the health of your mouth, teeth, and gums. Your dentist in Wolverhampton can also advise you on your treatment and help check for any concerns.
Don’t: Share your Invisalign aligners
If you’re a teenager, you might be tempted to let your friends borrow your aligners or have a go wearing them. Not only is this unhygienic, but it could cause problems with the fit of your clear braces. We’d advise encouraging them to book a dental appointment, instead.
Do: Download the Invisalign app
Did you know Invisalign has its very own app? It’s a great way to see how your treatment is going and keep on track with your aligners. With a whole community of patients around the world undergoing treatment, you can even share tips on how to make it through your programme. Don’t forget to take photos of your very own ‘before and after’.
